The Pivot

A weekend of discovery was the expectation.  The organizer was a published author, national keynote speaker and deacon in the Catholic Church.  The theme of the weekend was, "Landing Up or Stepping Down; What are you going to do with the rest of your life?"

The theme was directly from the Deacon's life. He shared his transformational experience of being in a Dallas hotel preparing to give a keynote address in an hour. As he sat on the bed he was overwhelmed to tears. He had been building his career for the last 25 years as an author and keynote speaker for some of the largest companies in North America. He'd been recognized as one of the top people in the profession.

That day in the hotel room it came to him that although he was a great motivator and story teller he felt called to more. He was being called, at the age of 55, to a vocation where his gifts would allow him to walk with those seeking words of encouragement, a vision, and the discovery of purpose in their lives. Continuing to cry in the elevator he made his way to the ballroom stage. Delivered the talk and pivoted to a new path in his life.

The seed for myself and "Fonts and Pints; Inspiration from Letters and Libations" was planted that weekend. Seeing the gifts and creativity of people are inspirational and in a way, those gifts are poured out like a product. The attraction of that "product" whether an actual pint of something, a speech, a book, or letters on a page it manifests from the creative heart. When you engage the world by seeing from the heart you will also be inspired by those that pivot and a conversation creates the place where story meets the relationship and a place of Landing Up or Stepping Down.
